Our Mission
Ernest & Hadley Booksellers strives to provide a unique selection of new, used and rare books, and other creative materials from local, regional, and international sources. We seek the input of community members who have a deep love of books and wish to share that passion with others. With a village approach, we provide space for book clubs to meet, authors to hold book signings, and artists to exhibit their craft, as all are essential to our purpose.
Our Namesakes
That would be Ernest Hemingway and his first wife, Hadley Richardson. Our owners, Easty and Ian, took a trip to Paris prior to opening the store, and came across the Latin Quarter apartment where Ernie and Hash had lived when they first moved to Paris. The sign above the door stated that this location marked "the happiest time in their marriage," thus, this is our happy place! The name captures a happy moment in time, despite the inevitable turbulance of life. To anyone calling in to ask for Ernest or Hadley, we kindly remind them that they are here in spirit (in addition to another friendly presence in our historic building! A story for another time...)
