Independent Authors & Publishers

Submitting Titles for Consideration

One of our goals at Ernest & Hadley Books1 is to showcase works by local, independent publishers, authors and artists, but you don't necessarily have to be local to submit your work for consideration.

If you have a title that you would like us to carry, we will need to see an Advanced Reader Copy, pdf copy, or final copy, along with a tip sheet, if available. Please reach out to easty@ernestandhadleybooks.com to schedule an appoinment, or simply mail a copy, along with your contact information, to Ernest & Hadley Booksellers, c/o Easty, 1928 7th Street, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.

Please keep in mind our company policy: for security reasons, we do not click links. If the information is obtained only by clicking a link or downloading a file, your email may not be seen.

Our space is limited and, in most cases, our shelves are organized by theme rather than genre. We carefully consider each submission, whether or not the book is “shelf-ready” and also fits with our collection. We work with wholesale distributors to purchase the vast majority of our inventory. If your books are not available through our distributors or, if you would prefer that we order directly from you, our policy is to establish consignment with an agreed upon time-frame and percentage split. Amazon, although great for reader reviews, is not a wholesale resource. Please do not refer us to Amazon for purchasing.

Once you have completed the minimum requirements (see above), we will contact you ASAP to let you know our decision, regardless.

Author Events

Ernest & Hadley Booksellers welcomes established, represented authors, but you do not necessarily need to be published by a major house to hold an event at our store. Book signings and talks, virtual or in-person, are arranged by our staff and are contingent upon the relevancy of the book to the Tuscaloosa community. As planning, marketing, and hosting an event takes quite a bit of time and expense, here are our perimeters to take into consideration:

  • We require a minimum of two months in advance scheduling. We've found that this allows enough time for our purchasing, marketing, and events teams to prepare.
  • Signing events are generally held within the first six months of the release date.
  • Independent authors should be local or have local connections that would bring in at least 20 attendees.
  • As our space is available to rent for small events, your desired event may be subject to a fee. Please set up an appointment to discuss the details.

Your tenacity in spreading the word about your event is vital to its success! If you are interested in holding an event at Ernest & Hadley Books, please email easty@ernestandhadleybooks.com.
